Their Story

July was invited by her sister to attend a Midsummer Night Social hosted by the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club on July 7, 2001. Her first response was no. She had no desire to socialize with strangers or engage in the dating game with the opposite sex. However at her sister’s insistence, July reluctantly accepted the invitation.

Steve was invited by a co-worker to go. She actually organized the event. His initial response was no but he reluctantly agreed to go as a token of support.

Call it Fate or Destiny, July and Steve met and fell head over heels in love.

Now July was already enrolled in personal development courses offered through Peak Potentials Training. She invited Steve to attend the Millionaire Mind Evening seminar with her. Steve declined. He didn’t want anything to do with money.

In retrospect, Steve shares that how he discovered passive income was totally by accident. He was walking along the False Creek seawall with July one day when she asked if he’d like to go to the Millionaire Mind Evening: The Secret Psychology of the Wealthy.

Alarm bells went ringing in his head. “This is a money seminar.” This was the last thing Steve wanted to have anything to do with. He’d just gone through a devastating divorce and everything about that divorce was all about money. In Steve’s mind, money caused him nothing but grief. He worked for many years to get a lot of money to have it taken away. His response to July was he wasn’t interested in more money. He’s got a good job. He can retire very easily at 65.

July didn’t want to press the matter. She knew this was the next step in her personal and professional mastery. She would pursue it with or without Steve. July was scheduled for two upcoming weekend programs. She attended the Wealth and Wisdom weekend event on November 2-3, 2001.

Steve went to his dad’s place in Washington for the weekend. On Saturday, he woke up at about four o’clock in the morning with the feeling that something wasn’t right. What wasn’t right was that he wasn’t with July. It dawned on him that in his previous relationships, any time that the other person wanted to go do something and invited him along, if he didn’t want to go do it he would tell them to go ahead without him and that he supported them. So on this particular Saturday morning, Steve discovered that maybe a different way of thinking was in order, such as going with the partner to whatever they wanted to do, even if he didn’t feel like going. He entertained the possibility that he should be with July supporting her in something she wanted to do. He talked to his dad about it and pointed out that maybe he had done the same thing with his marriages.

July had a wonderful experience at the seminar. To her utter amazement, Steve asked to go to the next seminar coming up in two weeks. She was at a loss for words. A few days ago he was so adamant about not going to these types of seminars. He shared the story about his epiphany on Saturday morning. He poured his heart out not knowing whether she was going to say yes or no. His story touched her heart. Steve really did want to go to the seminar and share the experience with her.

Steve was totally prepared to be bored at the Millionaire Mind Intensive. However, the first thing that came out of T. Harv Eker’s mouth was “How you feel about money is how you feel about your life.” The impact of those words was like a bullet right between the eyes. Steve was not feeling too great about life because how he felt about money was he didn’t want it. Money represented unhappiness, hard work and grief. Steve thought if he didn’t want money, did that mean he didn’t want life? His answer was of course not. In order to embrace life, one must embrace money. It changed his whole paradigm around money. The weekend forever changed his life.

Similarly, July became aware of her subconscious programming and limiting beliefs around money. This seminar proved to be the missing link for unlocking the key to financial freedom. But like all keys, they are only effective tools when used.

Together, July and Steve drafted their ten year financial freedom plan. November 25, 2010 seemed like a reasonable target date to acquire $2,000 per month passive income and to become financially free. Like the flywheel concept mentioned in the book “Good To Great” by Jim Collins, the first few months were dedicated to studying real estate and networking. They were laying the foundation.

Amazingly, fifteen months later, their net worth statement went from negative thousands to positive hundreds of thousands; from zero passive income to $5,000 per month. Within two years, they achieved $10,000 per month passive income and became net millionaires. Three years later, they are multi-millionaires receiving over $15,000 per month in passive income and a real estate portfolio valued at over $10 million.

From Zero to Millionaire in less than 2 years requires a get-rich strategy. There is a formula for creating wealth and getting rich. Applying it takes commitment. Financial freedom becomes inevitable.
